About

EXIT is a 46-foot, shallow-draft, centerboard aluminum sloop. She was designed by Philippe Harlé and built in Normandy in 1992 by the French boatbuilders Garcia Yachting. EXIT is a Passoa 47, one of several models Garcia has built to this basic design. Draft is 1.05m (3.5 feet) with the centreboard up and 2.48m (8 feet) with the board down.

Since her launch, EXIT has sailed across the Atlantic and throughout The Bahamas and the Caribbean. For the past 10 years, she’s been berthed at Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding in mid-coast Maine, not far from Penobscot Bay. She has sailed extensively in Down East Maine, the Bay of Fundy, the Saint John River in New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. EXIT’s hail port is Mountain View, California.

“The cure for everything is salt water…” — which we’ve decided to use as a title for this blog — paraphrases Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixen), from a story called “The Deluge at Norderney”:

I originally found a matchbox with this paraphrased a few years ago. I gave it to Linda for Christmas it’s been sitting in our kitchen, next to the stove, where we’ve looked at it nearly every day since. I think that it’s been inspirational as we’ve prepared for this trip.
